School NewsTwin signing doubles excitement It was double the excitement for one Carl Junction family when twin sisters Kaitlin and Kelsey Wilson signed to play softball at the college level. The Wilsons signed their letters of intent to play with Neosho County Community College in Chanute, Kan. The girls were members of this year’s successful Lady Bulldogs softball team, which won both the conference and district championships. Both were also recognized in the post season for their accomplishments on the field. Kaitlin was also named to the first team All-Conference and first team All-District. She was also named second team All-Region. Kelsey, Lady Bulldogs first-baseman, was named first team All-Conference and second team All-District. Kelsey filled the designated hitter spot for the Lady Dogs in the 2008 season. Kaitlin tied the school record for homeruns in a single season with six in 2009. She batted .329, and batted in 20 runs. Kaitlin also hit seven doubles and scored 17 runs for the Lady Dogs. Her sister, Kelsey, batted .318 and scored 14 times. Kelsey had 12 RBIs and three doubles. She led the team in walks with 14. Kaitlin plans to major in elementary education. Her sister has plans to go into physical education or sports medicine. “It is an amazing school,” said Kaitlin, “we loved everything about it. The academic program is amazing and we really liked the dorms and the facilities.” Kaitlin said the two sisters had the opportunity to meet several of the team members and felt very welcome. Kaitlin said the two felt that they were really wanted at Neosho County, which played a big part in their decision making. Carl Junction High School coach Jonathan Wengert said Neosho County has a solid softball program. “I think they will be a good fit for the program,” said Wengert. “They should do well.” Wengert said he expects Neosho County will utilize the girls in the infield. |
