The Lady Bulldogs saw their season come to an end with a 79-59 second-round district loss to Webb City, Wednesday, Feb. 24 at Nevada. Despite the disappointing end to the season, it was a milestone game for one Carl Junction player.

The Lady Bulldogs’ only senior, Lauren McRae, topped 1,000 career points with her 28-point performance against the Lady Cards. McRae outscored all players in the district contest, increasing her high school career point total to 1,020.

Webb City came into the district tournament with the number one seed. Carl Junction, seeded fourth, had defeated fifth-seeded Clinton to advance to the second round.

The Carl Junction girls finished their season with an overall record of 9-19. Of those 19 losses, 12 of them were by a dozen points or less, said coach Jonathan Wengert; eight of the losses were by 8 points or less.

Wengert said he did see improvement in the team as the season played out.

“I think we definitely got better as the year went on, as we got farther into the season,” said Wengert.

In addition to McRae, two other CJ players hit double digits in their final game of the year. Mackenzie Valenti scored 14 points for the Lady Bulldogs, while Maddie Stevenson chipped in 10. Stevenson also led the CJ team in rebounds with 7. Claire Prather and Valenti tied with four steals against Webb City.
